Intervention

What Is An Intervention?

An intervention is an organized and well-planned meeting between a struggling person (person of concern), their loved ones, and an intervention professional. The goal of the meeting is to provide support and education to the entire family system while encouraging the person of concern and each family member to heal together. Family members are also given an opportunity to share their concerns and express their support for their loved ones.

While interventions can certainly be emotionally charged, they do not have to be confrontational or damaging to the family. With proper planning and guidance from a trained interventionist, these meetings can be constructive conversations between loved ones in which love, support, and empathy are expressed.

The Intervention Process With Sisu

We facilitate intervention assistance that is tailored to the specific needs of your family. To do this, planning and organizing the meeting is crucial. Before the meeting with the person of concern takes place, Sisu Healing Partners provides guidance during the initial family meeting to create a plan for recovery. This includes an agenda for the intervention itself and a treatment plan for their loved one once they accept help.

It can be helpful to the person of concern to be presented with a care plan during their first meeting with their family and interventionist. Sometimes, the prospect of getting treatment is daunting because they don’t know where to start. However, if the person of concern is presented with resources that can be made available to them, the stress of that step is taken away. All they have to do is agree to receive the treatment. Alleviating such stress and knowing what the next step is makes the intervention more likely to be successful. Our team at Sisu can get you set up with the resources you need to facilitate treatment.

The ARISE Intervention Model

At Sisu Healing Partners, we utilize the ARISE® Intervention Model (ARISE® ) instead of traditional intervention methods. ARISE® is very different from the type of intervention you might expect. This approach is based on empathy, respect, and an attitude of non-judgment. We believe that people struggling with addiction or mental health issues respond better to compassion than to blame. That’s why we use ARISE® to encourage entry into treatment.

ARISE® is an invitational method of intervention. That means that instead of insisting that the person of concern receive treatment, they are respectfully invited to do so on their own terms. ARISE® is an invitational and inclusive intervention process that avoids coercion into treatment. Someone who makes the decision to get better on their own accord is more likely to remain dedicated to the journey. The ARISE® approach also promotes transparency and honesty. The person of concern is always aware of the subject of meetings before agreeing to attend. This creates a therapeutic intervention environment based on trust and mutual respect.

The main goal of ARISE® is long-term recovery and healing for individuals and their families; therefore, the ARISE® model consists of three levels. These levels encourage building trust to encourage and motivate a loved one to enter treatment. The levels include:

Level One

The first level is referred to as “The First Call.” This is when a loved one contacts an ARISE® interventionist. A consultation and a thorough family history are obtained. An initial family meeting is conducted with the person of concern with careful planning. This meeting includes the creation of a genogram, family map, recovery message, and ongoing care plans.

Level Two

At this level, a more directive approach is taken to include additional support people in the family meetings. An ARISE® interventionist utilizes specific protocols in order to create a sense of family safety and illicit change within the network.

Level Three

During level three, a formal intervention will occur. This happens if the person of concern does not enter treatment in either stage one or two.

Comprehensive Care

Comprehensive Care is the common thread that flows through intervention. During this phase families meet for weekly sessions where they check in on recovery commitments and receive ongoing education and support.

Family Support and Involvement

Having a strong support network is vital for anyone on the recovery journey. For many people, a key piece of that support network is their family. This is especially true for teens and young adults, who may feel untethered and disconnected without reliable adult figures on their side. Family support will ensure that everyone affected is getting the education and guidance they need to meet and overcome challenges together. Such unity is key to not only helping the family directly involved but also raising awareness and encouraging other families to seek the help they need.

Further, if someone in your family is struggling with addiction or mental health issues, we understand that their disorder has affected you as well. You may harbor feelings of anger and resentment towards your loved one. That’s normal, and it doesn’t mean that your support isn’t needed or wanted.
